Sept 26th. Next PAHS Meeting

Next "Mystery Guest Event" although isn't a mystery any longer (thanks to Truett Bell's request) for the Pattison Area Heritage Society will be Sept 26th, 2011. The "Mystery Guest Event" will be held at the Pattison Area Volunteer Fire Department - Community Room. The event will start at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

The PAHS monthly "Mystery Guest Night" is held on the last Monday of each month with the exception of May and December, which on these particular months there will not be a monthly meeting.

At the next PAHS meeting to be on Sept. 26, 2011, we are going to have a night of historical preservation. 

 

PAHS has purchased two scanners and will scan your old pictures and historical documents at our meeting. Do you have old photographs or documents that are falling apart? We can scan them for you. Do you have pictures that are stuck to the glass in the frames? We can scan them. We can scan old newspapers and splice them together. We can convert all of the above into digital form for perservation. 

You might want to go to Waller County Texas Historical Commission/Society and check out the photos and papers that are shown on their website which were scanned recently.

We are working out the workflow once the photo/document is scanned and will provide people with a cd of their photos and documents for safe keeping. We are not sure if the CD copy will be made available at the meeting night or if the CD disc(s) will be made ready at the next PAHS meeting. Depends on how many people show up with boxes of stuff to scan.

This is a continual work in progress to preserve history as time keep moving forward.

June Meeting is Canceled

Due to some conflicts such as the local Vacation Bible School evening activities and special meeting for the Waller County Sub-Regional Planning Commission on Monday, June 27, the monthly meeting of the Pattison Area Heritage Society is being canceled.

But please plan on attending our next meeting on Monday evening 7/25/11starting at 7pm, as we have a special guest lined up to speak (and she is a returning guest speaker just to add to the curiosity, so show up to see who it will be).

Guest Speaker Night - April 25, 2011

The PAHS monday night meeting, April 25, 2011 will feature Sam Wilson and the Waller County Sheriff's Mounted Posse.

As a 18 yr. old young man, Sam coached a group of grown men into performing horsemen. They performed at various local events and also at the Houston Fat Stock show that was held in the Houston Colosseum.

Sam is also one of the half dozen men that rode on the very first Salt Grass Trail Ride, along with James B. Pattison.

So you are invited to come listen to Sam Wilson talk about the Mounted Posse and the Salt Grass Trail. We will be showing a recently discovered 16mm footage film from 1955 that contains scenes from the Salt Grass Trail riding in Hempstead, Texas and the Waller County Mounted Posse performing at the Fat Stock Show. If you are anyway associated or know someone who was in one or both of these groups, please come out and help identify people within this film's footage.

April 2010 - PAHS Meeting Cancelled

The Pattison Area Volunteer Fire Department's front driveway is being upgraded to a concrete driveway, and because of this construction the monthly meeting of the PAHS will be cancelled due to the construction of this new driveway.

We are very excited about the wonderful things that are happening with the Pattison Area Volunteer Fire Department and their facilities, but having to get everyone to park 1/4 mile or further away and walk navigating the construction of the new driveway, we have chosen to cancel this month's meeting.

By the way, the months of May and December, we don't have meeting either, so we look forward to seeing everyone again in June, the last Monday evening of the month - June 28, 2010. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the presentation begins around 7:00 pm.

The April 27th PAHS guest speaker evening event that was canceled/postponed because of the torrential downpour rain which occurred on that night, this June 29th Guest Night Event is going to be the "Do-Over".

Have you ever heard of Adams Flat Road? Sure, everybody has heard of it, it is north of Pattison. Do you know why it is named Adams Flat? Most roads or communities are named for families that lived there. The Adams family will be the topic of our meeting in June. The Reverend Herb Stallknecht's mother was an Adams. He has lots of pictures that will be projected onto the wall while telling stories about the family.

Last Monday of the Month - Next Guest Night, Feb. 23, 2009

Our last Monday of the month meeting will feature a 103 year-old man. Hugh Anderson has many stories to tell. He use to own a clothes cleaning shop in Katy, Texas. He was also a well known bootlegger. He has told stories about the sheriff coming to visit him about his operation. What came of that? You will have to attend the meeting to find out.
